Speakers sought for walking and cycling conference

A call for papers has been issued ahead of the 2022 London Walking and Cycling Conference, with organisers expecting this year’s event to attract the ‘widest range of sustainable transport experts yet’.

The theme of the 2022 conference, which takes place at the Guildhall in the City of London on 10 June, is ‘walking and cycling towards a fair and inclusive city’

Possible topics for speakers include the following, although any topics in the wider context of sustainable transport are welcomed:

  • Creating public space and transport that is safe and supportive for women and girls
  • Projects and initiatives to increase active travel within ethnic minority communities
  • Adapting the transport system to be more inclusive and supportive for people with disabilities
  • The role of technology and innovation in developing inclusive mobility

The event organisers, Hackney Council and the City of London Corporation, are encouraging papers from local authority officers, campaigners, academics and other interested parties.

They would especially like to welcome any new voices and fresh perspectives on how to make walking and cycling more inclusive.

As well as case studies from London, they are seeking papers from outside of the Capital and the UK, so that ‘we can learn from experience in other contexts’.

The deadline for submissions is 4 March, however early submissions are encouraged. To submit a paper please use this Google Form.

Nominated speakers will be notified by spring 2022.
