The London Road Safety Council is today (21 July) hosting its 100th AGM, with road safety officers and elected members from across the Capital gathering in Southwark for the event.

The conference which runs alongside the AGM will include a presentation from TfL’s Zoe Cotton, who will provide an overview of the Mayor of London’s new casualty reduction agenda.

Another presenter, Joe Sturdy, also from TfL, will examine current casualty statistics and trends, while public health initiatives from Hounslow, Greenwich and Lewisham will also be presented to delegates.

Also on the agenda is Nick Lloyd from RoSPA, who will explain his organisation’s latest campaigns and activities, and Jan James from Dynamic Advertising who will look at motorcycling in the Capital.

During the AGM, LRSC president James Cracknell MBE will present the 2017 London Road Safety Award, which is presented annually to highlight and reward innovation and good practice in road safety education.

The LRSC (at the time known as the London Accident Prevention Council) initiated the voluntary accident prevention movement in Great Britain in 1916. Since then, it has worked to reduce the number of casualties in the Capital by producing and promoting resources and publicity materials, and providing a forum to discuss road safety issues.

The highlight of the LRSC’s centenary celebrations was a one-day conference, ‘Safer Cities, Safer Futures’, held at the Guildhall in the City of London in January 2017. More than 180 people attended, and the event was given the thumbs up by delegates in the post event survey.
